I had a great time last weekend getting everyone ready to take on the content for 422B. I hope that you all feel confident to complete the course over the holidays. I just wanted to update you on a few things:
TaskStream: I have finished a new set of instructions and posted them on webCT. They are designed to get you to TaskStream for the first time and all the way to uploading your first artifact and requesting feedback!
Journals 6-10: Don't forget that 2 of the journal entries are the Software Review and Web2.0 (the number doesn't matter). For the other three entries, you are free to search L&L, T-H-E Journal, and Edutopia (all linked on the blog) for appropriate articles around issues of education and technology. PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TITLE AND THE FIRST LINE OF THE ENTRY.
IF YOU ARE A 422B STUDENT: Get me your blog address ASAP so I can get it on the blogroll!
For those who do not want to think over the holidays, I offer the following suggestions:
Database Bells and Whistles: Organizing Data for Whole-Class Use
by Jessica Kahn
vol. 25 no. 3
Fulldome Video: An Emerging Technology for Education
by Linda Law
vol. 34 no. 3
Coding (and Consulting) Kid-style with Scratch
by Dian Schaffhauser
(this would be a good follow-up for those who read about Scratch in 422A)
Please try and stay ahead of your work and email me with any questions.
This week's questions: What is your favorite holiday tradition? Explain.

Holidays are a great time to be together with family. If you don't have family nearby then it can be a great time to enjoy your favorite activites such as skiing, going to movies, working around the house or doing something for someone you have meant to do. This holiday season I am busy completing asignments for school. I am grateful for the excellent instruction that our teacher has given to us. I know it will help me to be a more effective teacher. This will also help my students to be more effective learners. This gift that I am receiving in this class I will be able to share with many students throughout my life.

Thank you for reminding us about our assignments.Yes I am staying with the assignments.I don't want to get behind on any assignments especially this holiday season, because I want to spend my time with my sweet grand daughter
I have travelled and lived in many countries and learned to appreciate the local cultures and enjoyed my holidays with them.I like to go shopping a lot during the holidays.Coming from India we like to cook some special rice called (biryani) and lamb or chicken curry. We have special breads and we like to make them.We have several sweets made from milk and sugar and cardamon(spice like nutmeg)Happy holidays everyone.
Hi to my friends:
Our holidays and new years celebration is different from other countries. Our new years begins from 21st of March. We celebrate it with setting a special table with some items which names starts with the letter "S" in farsi, Like "seeb" which means apple and every thing has a special meaning, apple means "health".In U.S. we celebrate Christmas to share the joy of it with other people. We set the christmas tree and exchange some gifts with our friends. This year we are sopposed to go to Las Vegas to see some Concerts prepared for Iranians by Iranian singers.I hope I can finish most of my assignments. Thanks to our good instructure for the helpful instructions.

It's the best when our kids come racing in and wake us up to open presents on Christmas morning! All 3 still believe in Santa, even my middle schooler! So they race up to find out what Santa brought, and then they come running into our room begging us to get out of bed. It's so much fun!
Merry Christmas!!
Yes, it is early Christmas morning and I am up working on assignments;) I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa leaving presents under my tree... Ok, no I am really trying to finish some stuff up because my dear sweet little grandparents are in the room next to me... snoring softly and dreaming... I always feel so comfortable when my entire family is in my house... LOVE IT!!
So, our family Christmas tradition is quite simple. You see, Christmas Eve is my Birthday... Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me:)... so we usually celebrate on the 24th and then have Christmas on the 25th. I know several families that open presents on Christmas Eve. Anyway, my grandparents, sister and I played a mean game of Scrabble tonight while watching Miracle on 34th Street. When everyone wakes up after sleeping in, we will have some coffee and bagels and stare at the presents under the tree for a few minutes... then tear them all open!! The rest of the day will consist of cooking with my mom, singing Christmas Carols, playing games, and watching traditional Christmas Specials on TV... Can't Wait!!!!!
Merry Christmas, Everyone!!!!

Two words, Christmas Story! Every year on Christmas Day we watch that legendary movie while in our pajamas! In fact, this year we watched it twice, and I love it every time! We even received an ornament of the "leg lamp"! Classic! In addition to that, my favorite tradtition is making sugar cookies using cute cutters and decorating with icing. I always get excited to buy gifts for others and wrap with ribbon.I was very behind in my shopping this year...but managed to send out of state and be done a couple days before.
This year was my first Christmas cooking the whole dinner. It was basically Thanksgiving all over again! I had a great time, but now have to get back to reality!
My family and I always open our Christmas presents on Christmas morning. We sit around in our pjs all day and play with all our new toys :) Anyone who wants to see us can come over to our house, but we never leave. I love it. I hear all my friends talk about how they have to go from house to house and how Christmas is such a hassle. Not for me :)
Holiday traditions....spending time with loved ones and family. It seems that the time spent playing board games, slowing down the pace and enjoying the simple moments of untangling icycle lights, hanging ornaments on the tree and drinking egg nog while the Grinch, White Christmas or the Wonderful Life play in the background is what keeps me going during the hectic holiday parties and activities.
I think my favorite holiday tradition is baking sugar cookies! As poor college students, our Christmas and holiday cookie cutter shapes have been limited the past few years, but we make up for it with very "creative" frosting decorations. It's been a great tradition to share with both family and friends!
Although I am not a member of your class (I've enjoyed some comments as I'm in education too), I am a long lost (from Hawaii) friend of the KENT's (since BYU 25 years ago), and was so excited to Google their blogs here! I can be contacted at gimkun@gmail.com Thank you! Ron
